Farmer's Bridge Locks

Friday 2nd December
We left Cuckoo Wharf about 9 am and started to climb the Aston flight of 11 locks. For the first time this week we met other boats on the move. One was ahead of us, he left the wharf about an hour before us, and we met 3 others coming down, making some of them ready for us. Soon we were at the top and there was time for a coffee on the move before we got the the Farmer's Bridge flight, 13 locks.

The canal is now well below street level and many levels of bridges and building have grown up around the line of the canal.  Note the red fire doors in the bridge.  These were put in during the war for the fire crews to lower their hoses to the canal to pump up water for fighting the fires of the blitz.

As we climb the flight so we come out into the light again with the NIA ahead (National Indoor Arena).  At the top we headed towards Sherbourne Wharf where we are now moored.
