Books for the Library

On our visits to the waterside towns we come to, we can usually be found browsing bookshops and antique centres. Most of the books we buy come from and are returned to charity shops but
in Pershore and Evesham we both found books to maybe hang onto.

I found this small, signed book of poems, Echoes of a Canal Travelling Man by J.H. Burman, Ian thinks it was probably 'privately printed and bound'. The poems were originally published in the Worcester-Birmingham Canal Society's magazine "58". Some are parodies of well known verses from such as John Masefield and Walter de la Mere, written to inspire action in restoring waterways, or just to reflect the peace to be found on them.

Ian found yet another tome by Tom Rolt, an author he enjoys, and already has many of his waterways related books this one is not about canals though, but the great engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

 He is enjoying it and I keep getting snippets related to me as he finds 'good bits' I should know about!
